Austria

The official website of the Austrian President (http://www.hofburg.at) gives an overview of the responsibilities and the role of the President in the Austrian political system, and provides information on the President himself and his public appearances and transcripts of speeches he has made.

The official website of the Belgian Government (http://www.belgium.fgov.be) provides general information on Belgium and its population.
It also introduces the monarchy and the Government, for which it serves as a portal site, and houses a database of press releases. There are special sections on the euro and the European Union.

The Prime Minister's site (http://www.premier.fgov.be) contains links which visitors can use to download the Government's annual statement of policy, as well as transcripts of speeches made by the Prime Minister. There is also personal information on the Prime Minister, his Office and the various departments responsible to him.

The official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and International Cooperation (http://www.diplobel.fgov.be) outlines the powers held by this Ministry.
A "News" section allows access to press releases issued by the Ministry. The site also sets out the guiding principles of Belgian foreign policy - including a special section on the European Union - and of policy on foreign trade and development co-operation.

Denmark

Danmark.dk (http://www.danmark.dk) is the portal site for all Danish public sector websites. Designed for the Danish public, it provides practical information for all types of situations associated with work, social security, marital status, etc.
The site is organised by subject area, and equipped with an alphabetical index and a search facility to aid navigation. A "News" section keeps users up to date on the latest Danish legislation.
The site also points users towards the relevant departments for a given subject, and provides links to the corresponding websites.

Finland

The site of the President of the Republic of Finland (http://www.tpk.fi) explains the duties of the President and offers a brief history of the Presidency. The site also contains a catalogue of the visits of the incumbent President abroad and in Finland, his speeches and interviews , as well as a virtual tour of Mäntyniemi, the Presidential Palace.

The site of the Finnish Council of State (Valtioneuvosto) (http://www.vn.fi) is the portal site of the Finnish government. Its sub-site covers the Prime Minister's Office (http://www.vn.fi) and includes press releases and the Prime Minister's speeches. It provides links to the web sites of the ministries, the President of the Republic and the Finnish Parliament (Eduskunta). It also offers an overview of Finnish history as well as some basic information on Finland's political system. A separate section is devoted to European Union affairs. A search facility is included.

Virtual Finland (http://virtual.finland.fi) is a multimedia guide to Finland maintained by the Department for Press and Cultural Affairs of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (http://virtual.finland.fi/ministry/forminsuo.html). In addition to the home page of the ministry itself, it contains a "Newsroom" section ('diplomatic diary', ministry press releases, daily news, weekly summaries on arts and sports), and a wide range of information about the country, with links to other appropriate Finnish sites. The "Society and Institutions" section can be considered as a portal site to every aspect of public life in Finland.

France

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs' site (http://www.france.diplomatie.fr) contains the broad lines of French foreign policy and current developments. A documentary database contains all French foreign policy statements since 1990. It is also possible to consult diplomatic archives on-line. Separate sections deal with France's policy in Europe and development cooperation. The site also contains practical information for foreigners who wish to come to France and for French nationals residing abroad. Finally, a separate section is devoted to promoting French culture.

Service-Public (http://www.service-public.fr) is the on-line guide to the French civil service for the French public.
The site provides a practical guide to rights and procedures for citizens in the form of subject-based factsheets. Each sheet looks at the various situations in which individuals might find themselves, explains the steps to be taken, provides links to further information and finally contains a question and answer section.
A similar service exists for businesses and the professions.
All administrative forms can be downloaded.
There is also a legislative database containing the main French and European legislation and a library of public reports.

Germany

The official website of the German President (http://www.bundespraesident.de) provides biographical details on the current President as well as giving access to his schedule and transcripts of speeches he has made.
Visitors to the site can also make a virtual tour of the Bellevue castle (the President's official residence in Berlin) and Hammerschmidt Villa (his official residence in Bonn).

The German Government website (http://www.bundesregierung.de) provides a wealth of detailed information on Germany (history, population, economy, etc.) and the various policies being pursued by the Government. It also includes a substantial section on European affairs.

The official website of the Italian Prime Minister (http://palazzochigi.it) sets out in full the ongoing work programme of the Italian Government and the activities of the Prime Minister.

In addition there is a detailed presentation of the way in which they work together. United Kingdom

The Foreign & Commonwealth Office (UK foreign ministry) (http://www.fco.gov.uk) operates a real time news and information service on all aspects of UK foreign policy, including speeches, transcripts, press releases and newspaper articles. Daily digests are available for the previous 30 days and the site has a fully searchable database. A number of "micro-sites" explain key foreign policy issues in more detail. Users can download papers in the 'Focus International' series for an accurate and balanced view on topics of current international interest. "Spotlight Britain" covers developments in UK domestic policy. The site also includes travel advice for more than 140 countries, and information on UK immigration and visa policy. Users can "personalise" the home page and request e-mail "alert" messages for breaking news stories or updates to country travel advice.

"Number 10 Downing Street" (http://www.number-10.gov.uk) is the site of the British Prime Minister. It offers an overview of UK domestic and foreign policy. There is a lively online discussion forum and further interactive features for the citizen are planned. The official website of the Principality of Andorra (http://www.andorra.ad), managed by the national information technology centre, provides access to all of Andorra's public sector websites. The Government homepage describes the composition of the Andorra administration, and offers links to the different Ministries, as well as transcripts of speeches made by the Head of Government in international forums.

Belarus

The official website of the President (http://www.president.gov.by) serves as a portal for all the Belarusian public sector sites. Its principal features are a presentation of the President (biography, personal schedule, speeches, press releases, etc.) and an explanation of the Belarusian political institutions. There are FAQ sections on several important political issues. There is a special section on relations with Russia. The site is rounded off by an extensive profile of the country itself with statistical information.

Bosnia-Herzegovina

As of 1 March 2000, the only official Government website in Bosnia-Herzegovina was that of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (http://www.mvp.gov.ba). The content on this site was, at that date, limited to a biography of the incumbent Minister and links to the homepages of the main organs of the Bosnian press and those of certain international organisations. According to the site, further pages are under construction.

Bulgaria

The official Government website (http://www.government.bg) provides general background information on Bulgaria (geography, history, economy, etc.). Users can also call up transcripts of speeches by the Prime Minister and members of the Government, together with a biography of each, and a detailed exposition of their political programme. Various public information documents can also be downloaded, in particular Bulgaria's strategy for accession to the European Union. A portal allows users to go directly to the site of each Ministry. A weekly news service keeps visitors up to speed on national news. The site also has a search facility.

The official Government website (http://www.vlada.hr) offers a detailed description of the Croatian political institutions and civil service, accompanied by biographical profiles of each member of Government. The site also features a database containing press releases, accounts of cabinet meetings and a weekly news bulletin. A monthly newsletter is also published on the site.

There are also biographies of the President and the members of his Government. A large part of the site concentrates on the issues raised by the partition of the island. Cyprus' relations with other countries are given extensive treatment, including a special section on the European Union. A daily news service provides visitors with information on current events in Cyprus. There is also a search facility.

The national information service (http://www.siscr.cz) is designed to be a portal for accessing all Czech sites in the public domain.

The Government site (http://www.vlada.cz) features in-depth expositions on the role, political programme and activities of the Prime Minister and the members of the Government. Besides general background texts, the site houses a database containing legislation, press releases, speech transcripts and briefing notes.
