Asia Tsunami Appeal

The OSMTH in Collaboration with The Interdenominational Church of the Holy Lands launched an emergency appeal in response to the widespread flooding caused by a massive earthquake off the coast of Sumatra.

The undersea earthquake, which occurred early on Boxing Day, was the most powerful in 40 years. Tidal waves swept across south east Asia, killing thousands and affecting hundreds of thousands more.

Archbishop Gary Beaver spoke from his office on Boxing Day as members of the Interdenominational Church and the OSMTH International charity commenced their urgent appeal. It was stated that: "The priority for the OSMTH and The  Interdenominational Church and all the brothers and sisters of the Independent Catholic fellowship is to get relief supplies into the region as quickly as possible and to support teams of disaster response experts from many agencies already working in the affected countries."

What have the OSMTH and Interdenominational Church done?

  • We  launched an appeal to help raise emergency medical supplies and tarpaulins, blankets, and water purification tablets.
  • The 'Asia earthquake and flood appeal' will also support rehabilitation work in the weeks and months to come.

Even though our initial Appeal was focused on Medical Supplies, we wish to extend the gratitude of the OSMTH to those that have donated money, which has been passed to the central fund of The Disaster Appeals Committee.
